Morton Team News Vs Clyde – By Darren Strutt

1 August, 2008

Morton head into tomorrow’s opening league game with Clyde with somewhat of an injury crisis, with no fewer than 4 players out injured, and just one goalkeeper on the books.

After a pre-season which threw up some disappointing results including home defeats to Ayr United and Hartlepool, Morton go into tomorrow’s game having held SPL St Mirren to a credible 1-1 draw in the Renfrewshire Cup Final last week, eventually losing in a penalty shoot-out. Manager Davie Irons has a defensive injury headache, with summer signing Allan McManus joining Ryan Harding and David MacGregor on the sidelines, leaving just Stewart Greacen and Alex Walker as the only recognised fit defenders. Peter Weatherson is expected to continue his role as an emergency central defender. Also missing from the side is midfielder Allan Jenkins who, like MacGregor and Harding, has taken no part in pre-season and as such is weeks away from a return to the side.

Irons hopes to add trialist defenders Alan Reid and Chris Smith to his squad in time for the game tomorrow, as well as completing another season-long loan deal for Rangers keeper Lee Robinson.

Squad will come from Stewart, Weatherson, Greacen, Walker, McGuffie, Finlayson, McAlister, Masterton, Paartalu, McAnespie, Mitchell, Kerrigan, McGeogh,Newby, Wake, Russell
